St. John Beach of the Month: Maho Bay
Maho’s blissful sheltered bay is nestled between green hills just five miles east of Cruz Bay. The sand is soft and white, and the water is shallow, making it a great training ground for novice snorkelers. Put on your mask, look down and be amazed at the living aquarium just beneath the surface and enjoy the vibrant coral reef full of colorful fish. Make sure to check out the spot near the rocks on the way to Maho Point. That’s where the most beautiful fish congregate. And Maho Bay’s most famous residents, sea turtles, live among the seagrass in the shallows. If you don’t like to snorkel, paddleboarding is another great way to commune with the gentle, friendly turtles. We’re loving Maho Crossroads, the new minimum footprint, energy-efficient, self-powered pop-up village across the street from Maho Beach in St John, US Virgin Islands. The property consists of a tiki bar on a moveable trailer, a VW Bus conversion food truck, and a couple of shipping container stores.

St. John Trail of the month: L’Esperance Trail
L’Esperance Trail follows a historic Danish road passing ruins of some of the earliest plantations established on St. John. You will see the island’s only baobab tree, a sacred species that was brought to the Caribbean by enslaved Africans. The trail is about 2.6 miles from the beginning to the beach. The majority of the trail faces west and there is not much shade so make sure you bring water, wear sun protection and a hat.
These backcountry trails are steep in places, uneven and rocky, and can be slippery even when dry – you’ll need sturdy, closed-toe shoes and a sure foot. Take plenty of water, some snacks and lunch, and a hat. Mosquito repellent is a good idea, too, and a swimsuit if you’d like to take a dip in the ocean down at the beach at the end of the trail.
St. John Villa of the Month
The Cliff House is one of the first homes built in St. John’s exclusive Peter Bay community. The location was chosen for its uniquely beautiful setting on three acres atop a cliff, overlooking incredible beaches, the neighboring British Virgin Islands, The Sir Frances Drake Channel, and the Virgin Islands National Park. Along with the amazing views, enjoy a wonderful home that offers near-constant trade wind breezes, luxurious furnishings, and complete relaxation and privacy. The Cliff House Villa is truly an island paradise unto itself. The very large and spacious villa has 4 large bedrooms along with a state of the art fitness gym on site. This home will have you feeling relaxed as the days of your stay melt away, you may feel the need to go absolutely nowhere.
However, many world-class beaches are in immediate proximity. Including Maho Bay, Cinnamon Bay, and world-famous Trunk Bay. This newly renovated home offers glorious and near-constant trade wind breezes and sounds of the ocean 100 feet below. Cliff House is located within steps of a beautiful private white sand beach in an exclusive privately gated community on St. John.
St. John Charity of the Month
The Animal Care Center (ACC) of St. John is located in Cruz Bay. The ACC addresses the problems of cruelty to, neglect and abuse of island animals. The shelter provides kennels for homeless dogs and inside cages for a limited number of homeless cats.
The ACC is a stable resource for the community, providing a no-kill shelter for homeless animals, a resource for animal lovers to find perfect pets, programs for island needs, and a community educational component. Visitors to St. John are welcome to volunteer at the Animal Care Center- volunteers are needed every day to help walk dogs, play with the cats, and help with Center operations.
