Staying Strong and Safe on St. John in April 2020

It’s April on St. John and the island is as beautiful as ever. We don’t have our normal events and meetups to share since the island is on quarantine like the rest of the United States due to the COVID-19 threat, and visitors are not permitted to enter.  While visiting isn’t possible right now, it’s still an excellent time to plan future trips and make moves towards finding your dream home on the island.

Here at Tropical Properties, our office is remote-equipped and our agents are reachable by cell phone as they are working from home to support our clients. We are also able to conduct virtual tours for those who want to learn more about properties for sale. Interest rates are low, which makes it an excellent time to purchase a home here on the island. We will be posting updates on our Facebook page as the situation develops.

St. John Beach of the Month: Lameshur Bay

Located on St. John’s south shore, Lameshur Bay is remote and peaceful, with a beautiful sand beach, sugar mill ruins and access to several great hiking trails make it one of my top choices for best beaches on St John. There are usually plenty of places to park close to the beach. The beach itself is gently shaded with soft white sand, picnic tables, and BBQ grills. If you’re snorkeling, make sure to go far enough from shore to where it’s all seagrass. You’ll be rewarded with views of sea turtles and rays, octopus, rays, barracuda, tangs, parrotfish, Caribbean lobsters, coral banded shrimp, and Queen Angelfish. The bay doesn’t get large surf because it’s protected on the sides.

St. John Trail of the Month: Ram Head Trail

The Ram Head Trail is one of our best hikes here on St. John. The full hike is nearly 5 miles round trip, and it has a big payoff: at the top of Ram Head you’ll enjoy a 360-degree view of paradise. Here’s how to get there: park at the Salt Pond parking lot, hike down to and across Salt Pond Bay to find the trailhead. The trail takes you across Blue Cobblestone Beach and then up to Ram Head. You’ll want to bring plenty of water and wear some sturdy shoes. Make sure to enjoy swimming and snorkeling at Salt Pond Beach to cool off after this challenging hike. Just follow the trail, watch out for cactus, take your time, and rest often.

St. John Charity of the month: Love City Strong

We’ve highlighted Love City Strong before, but their work has become even more vital during the current crisis.  The nonprofit disaster recovery operation has shifted focus and is now distributing food to local children. They are modeling their belief that health and safety must always come first, especially as the vast majority of their clients are seniors or immunocompromised. While some of their rebuilding projects have been impacted by this ever-changing health emergency, they are committed to seeing them through to completion in a timely manner, to continue St. John’s recovery and growth. Theresa M. Sim has been a resident of St. John, for over 10 years now. She is just one of the full-time Real Estate agents at Tropical Properties and is currently working on her Brokers License. She came to visit back in 2008 and never left! Her journey started at Maho Bay Campgrounds, an Eco-Resort that was nestled in US Virgin Islands National Park. Since then, she’s obtained her Virgin Islands Real Estate License, 100-ton Captain’s License and founded a handful of small businesses ranging from cleaning/maintenance services to gift baskets and retail sales which ultimately lead to the foundation of a property management company, Azure Vacation Homes.
