Sunny Days are Here in St. John

Welcome to August! We’re happy to bring you our  monthly insight into the happenings here on St. John. We are staying healthy and strong here on the island, with a low number of coronavirus cases. The U.S. Virgin Islands Port Authority has implemented an easy online system for submitting health information to restrict travelers from certain affected areas, you can see all the details and complete your pre-screening here.  People from most states are permitted to come without quarantine, and with Europe closed to U.S. visitors, we are seeing travelers coming to enjoy our island as an alternative this summer. Shops and restaurants are open, and we’ve been spared from any tropical disturbances so far. It’s a great time to come and pay us a visit!

It’s a pleasure to share some updates on new things to do here on St. John. Neptune’s Lookout next to the Susannaberg Windmill is home to the new open-air Windmill Bar.  Try your hand at disc golf on their 9 hole course and then chil at the bar with sweeping views of Hawksnest Bay! In Maho Bay, table service is now available at Maho Crossroads, and they are offering live music as well.  You can get the best views of Maho’s sea turtles by renting transparent kayaks at The Love Maho store. Add these highlights to the list for your next visit!

St. John Beach of the Month

Salt Pond Bay beach is one of the most popular St John beaches. A moderate hike from the road, you’ll find this protected cove. Salt Pond boasts a white sand beach and some of the best snorkeling and hiking on St. John. Another great reason to choose Salt Pond is Drunk Bay and Ram’s Head. Both offer the kind of rugged beauty that makes for memorable adventures and great pictures. Take the trail at the eastern end of the beach. Go left to Drunk Bay with its rugged coral and stone shoreline and visitor-created stone sculptures and cairn. Or proceed right following the trail that leads along the eastern shoreline of Salt Pond to the crest of Ram’s Head. Make sure to bring some water, since the hike is about a mile each way and it’s fairly strenuous. You’ll walk narrow island paths and cross a majestic stony beach before making the final ascent to the top of Ram Head. The view back toward Salt Pond makes it well worth the effort! A truly unique view of St John!

St. John Charity of the month: Dynamic Dancers

The Dynamic Dancers is a non-profit dance group with ages ranging from ages 3-16 based on St John.  The group of 30 dancers perform at local cultural events, travel to the states for competitions and do community service on our home island.  They infuse Calypso, hip hop and gymnastics they choreograph themselves. They are currently fundraising for a van to transport the dancers to different events.
